Medicaid Crisis – Call to Action
MOTHERS, have you sought out-of-hospital midwifery services from Medicaid and been denied?
MIDWIVES, have you worked with mothers who have been denied midwifery services from Medicaid?
If so, VMA needs your help! Read on.
Medicaid is moving to managed care, and clients are being enrolled in managed care. Managed care organizations deny most out-of-hospital midwives to become part of their managed care systems because most midwives do not carry malpractice insurance.
BUT Medicaid includes out-of-hospital midwives as Medicaid providers. Certified Professional Midwives have been providers for 10 years, and they provide excellent midwifery care AND save Medicaid money.
NOW is the time for you to contact your state legislators and let them know that Medicaid is making it impossible for mothers to have the maternity provider of your choice. PLEASE take a few minutes to contact your state delegate and senator and let them know that this situation must change. ASK them to contact Medicaid to find a solution to the access problem.
Mothers AND midwives can make these contacts.
If you do not know who your delegate and state senator are, click this link and follow the directions:
Remember to contact your delegate and state senator,
NOT Senators Kaine and Warner and your Congressman. This is a state problem and must be addressed by your state legislators.
